Black Soul Heal

The wound that divided humanity, and the healing that can set us free

The wound was inflicted upon Black people. It changed all of humanity. To turn human beings into property, the world first had to manufacture a lie: that some lives are worth more than others. The lie outlived the chains. It entered our institutions, our bodies, our relationships and our sense of who belongs, and it still shapes how we treat one another, the Earth and ourselves. Black Soul Heal is an invitation to face that unfinished wound through truth, courage and remembrance, without blame and without building a new hierarchy of human worth. Moving through history, science, medicine, spirituality and inherited memory, Dr. Amy Holda Gueye shows how the dehumanization of Black people fractured the human story, and how healing that fracture restores something the whole species has forgotten. She gives equal weight to what was endured and to what could never be destroyed: brilliance, creativity, ancestral wisdom, sacred dignity, and the soul’s capacity to return to itself. Reflective practices run throughout, guiding the reader toward healing of mind, body, emotion, spirit and relationship. The book asks us to move past suffering without denying history, to reclaim memory without being imprisoned by it, and to imagine a liberation larger than one people rising above another. The history of Black people is not separate from the history of humanity. When one root is severed, the whole forest leans. Healing the Black soul was never about Black people alone. It is about whether humanity still remembers how to become whole.

The Word

A Story of Kajoor

Before the ships came, before the maps were redrawn, there was Kajoor: a kingdom that answered to no crown but its own, where a king was chosen rather than born, and where the truth of who a man was lived in the mouth of the one man trained never to let it die. Biram Sàmbb was born to that mouth. Bonded since infancy to a prince of the royal house, raised inside every secret of the court, he is gewelu jiddu — a griot’s son with no equal in devotion and no license, yet, to speak. His father died carrying the sacred war-drum into battle and left him something crueler than nothing: a birthright he cannot claim. When the old Damel weakens and the kingdom’s electors begin circling a throne that is never simply inherited, Biram’s prince returns from years of exile a near-stranger to his own people, and Biram becomes the one man who can teach him how to be a king again. Beneath the succession fight, an older history is stirring: a griot lineage silenced generations ago for a crime the record barely remembers, its name all but erased, until the silence itself turns lethal. Torn between the woman he loves, herself a daughter of that erased name, and a destiny he was born into but never granted, Biram must decide what a man does when the truth he was trained to guard is the only thing that can save everyone he loves. The Word is a sensory journey into an African kingdom in the full bloom of its own magnificence: its courts, its music, its rivalries, its unbreakable laws. It is a story about what happens when the keepers of memory are finally forced to say the one thing they were taught never to say. Some kingdoms fall to armies. This one nearly fell to silence.

The Medicine of Remembering

Stops Fighting the Body and
Starts Listening to It

Blending science, history, poetic storytelling and holistic wisdom, Dr. Amy Holda Gueye invites the reader back toward the parts of themselves that modern life taught them to forget. She writes on trauma, womanhood, ancestral memory and the failures of transactional healthcare, and reimagines healing as something far larger than the management of symptoms. Rooted in African wisdom traditions and integrative medicine, the book makes a single argument across every chapter: that the most powerful medicine available to us is the medicine of remembering who we are

My Daughter’s Hair

Poems of God, Mothers, Daughters, and the Hair We Inherit

A devotional collection written for four daughters. The poems move in three parts. First the hair as God sees it, written in the voice of God and in the cadence of the sermon. Then the hair as we see it, in a mother’s hands and a daughter’s mirror. Then the return. Hair is the smallest possible subject and the largest. It carries beauty, race, inheritance, labor, tenderness and every message a girl receives about whether she was made correctly. Each daughter read and approved the poems written about her.
